Paris Saint-Germain claimed the Coupe de la Ligue title for the fourth straight season after Julian Draxler and Angel Di Maria scored before an Edinson Cavani brace in a 4-1 win over Monaco in Saturday’s final.
PSG needed only four minutes to take the lead after Di Maria was played in on goal, though there was a suggestion of offside when he passed across for Draxler to score.
Monaco found an equaliser in the 27th minute when Djibril Sidibe’s pass found Thomas Lemar with space at the top of box, and the young midfielder was able to cure home a fine shot.
Draxler and Di Maria linked up again just before the break to restore PSG’s lead. This time Draxler was the provider and played in Di Maria, who stayed onside before slotting in at the near post.
And nine minutes after half-time, Cavani scored a well-struck volley from Marco Verratti’s cross to make PSG’s lead more comfortable.
Cavani then sealed PSG’s title with his second goal in the 90th minute, lashing a shot under the crossbar on the half-volley from Di Maria’s cross.
