Alhaji Abdullahi Aliyu Babawo, a chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Gaji ward of Kaduna North Local Government Area of Kaduna State, and his supporters, on Tuesday defected to the Labour Party.
Speaking to newsmen, Babawo said they left the main opposition party following irregularities from the congress of the party to the governorship primary election in the State.
“As someone who has served the PDP from the ward to the local government as the chairman of the party, as well as the ALGON chairman of chairmen of PDP in all the 23 local government areas in the State, l have known what it takes to ensure transparency in all the processes involved in ensuring that genuine candidates emerged,” he said.
“Having seen all the irregularities in the PDP, l decided to honourably resign my membership of the party for the past three months. I decided to critically study all the political parties and discovered that the Labour Party has in its manifestos what Nigerians desire at the moment and to give hope to Nigerians at this challenging moment in the history of the country.”
He stated that most politicians were only recycling themselves from one political party to another with the desperation to be elected to continue with their questionable characters of perpetuating their anti-people programmes for their selfish reasons.
“I looked at the Labour Party and strongly believed it has the feelings of the country at heart. What Nigerians desire at the moment is by having a purposeful leadership that will unite the country irrespective of any difference,” he noted.
“With the 2023 general elections around the corner, Nigerians have to open their eyes widely so that they do not elect politicians into elective positions that will worsen what the country is presently going through.”
