Pantami says capacity development key to attainting a digital economy

The Honourable Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Dr Isa Ali Ibrahim Pantami FNCS, FBCS, FIIM has stated that the Ministry under his watch will prioritize Digital literacy with a view of ensuring that by the year 2022- 2023 all Federal Public Servants are computer literates.

The Next Level prime mover made this known last Friday while delivering the keynote address during the closing ceremony of the capacity development program for eGovernment in Nigeria and the official Hand-Over of the eGovernment Training Centre to Nigeria. Both projects were executed by the Korean Government through its representative in Nigeria (KOICA).

The Minister also appreciated the Republic of South Korea for sponsoring Nigerian students to the Country for both MSc and Ph.D. programmes, stressing that capacity development is essential to economic development.

The Federal Executive Council member highlighted that training and retraining are essential components in the Economic Recovery and Growth Plan (ERGP) of His Excellency, President Muhammadu Buhari led administration.

Dr Pantami further disclosed that he has granted approval for an auditorium in the $1million project to be renamed after Dr Jeong Kuk Hwan, the former Director for e-Government who passed away early last year.

On his part, Ambassador Lee of South Korea appreciated the Ministry and the Management of Public Service Institute of Nigeria, Abuja for the support rendered in actualizing the projects.

The ambassador further pledged the Korean Government’s full commitment to partnering with Nigeria in the area of capacity development.

Highlights of the day were the official sign off and Hand-Over of the eGovernment Training Centre to Nigeria, presentation of certificates and prizes to deserving participants.
