Oluwabukunola Gadzama, a top Lagos businesswoman is currently facing prosecution by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) for alleged fraud.

The EFCC on Wednesday arraigned the businesswoman before an Ikeja High Court for allegedly stealing N34.5 million under the guise of purchasing a plot of land.

Gadzama was charged alongside her company, Buildcon Global Services Ltd., on two counts: stealing and retaining proceeds of crime.

The defendant pleaded not guilty to the charges.

EFCC counsel, Franklin Ofoma, requested a trial date and urged the court to remand the defendant until the trial begins.

The prosecutor alleged that Oluwabukunola Gadzama committed the offenses between October 2021 and April 2022 in Lagos. He claimed she stole and converted N34.5 million, the property of complainant Adeyemi Joshua, which was intended for the purchase of a 300-square-meter plot of land at Mak Court Estate in Lekki.

The EFCC also alleged that Gadzama unlawfully retained the stolen funds.
