Mr. Godwin Obaseki, governor of Edo State on Monday, sacked the Commissioner for Roads and Bridges, Newton Okojie, an engineer.
The sack followed the deplorable condition of Benin-Sapele-Warri and Benin-Ekpoma-Auchi-Abuja expressways, which have become dens of kidnappers and robbers, despite protests by motorists, commuters and villagers,
Communication and Orientation Commissioner Chris Nehikhare said it was unfortunate that Obaseki’s administration had not made progress in road infrastructure, particularly in the last 12 months.
He said in a statement: “Sadly, the commissioner (Okojie), as much as he has tried, has not made progress for the state government to achieve its goal.”
Nehikhare quoted Obaseki as thanking the sacked commissioner for his service to the state and wished him well in his future endeavours.
He said the permanent secretary in the ministry, Osikhena Ojior, an engineer, will take charge until a new commissioner is appointed.
