The National Population Commission (NPC) says about N200bn has so far been expended since 2014 to date, from the budgeted N800bn, for the now shifted 2023 census.
The expenses include salaries, allowances, and for the purchase of equipment, including the Personal Digital Assistant.
NPC’s Federal Commissioner for Borno State, Barrister Isa Buratai, made this known at a Breakfast Meeting with Media Executives in Maiduguri.
Buratai said the meeting was to explain the rationale behind the postponed 2023 national census.
According to him, despite the shift in date by the previous Buhari administration, preparations for the census are still ongoing until the new Tinubu-led government announces a new date.
He emphasised that the census was not cancelled but was merely shifted to allow the present government to be part of it.
