The Chief Information Technology Officer of Nigeria, Dr Isa Ali Ibrahim Pantami FNCS, FBCS, FIIM has commended Nigerian Tech Startups on their passion and desire to provide ICT solutions that will impact positively on the human life, which has seen the innovators raised a total of $118,478,784 in seed funds in the year 2018.
The IT Boss said that, “one of Nigeria’s key areas of strength is our young population, about 65% of Nigerians are youths and many of them ICT-savvy”, adding that, “leading business personalities around the world have acknowledged the potentials of our startups, example of such personalities are Mark Zuckerberg, CEO of Facebook, Bill and Melinda Gates and President Macron of France.
Dr Pantami who doubles as the Director General, National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA), made this position known while making his remarks during the 10th edition of Startup Friday held today at PTDF tower, with the theme: CREATING AN ENABLING ENVIRONMENT FOR THE TECHNOLOGY ENTREPRENEURIAL ECOSYSTEM TO THRIVE.
Pantami stated that the desire to empower creative young minds to drive Nigeria’s economy led NITDA to establish the Office for ICT Innovation and Entrepreneurship (OIIE), a special purpose vehicle that is dedicated on identifying and supporting promising Nigerian startups in the ICT space.
