Prof Yemi Osinbajo, Nigeria’s vice president, has been commended by some Nigerians for opting to undergo knee surgery in a local hospital.
According to them, the vice president showed faith in Nigerian hospitals by having his surgical procedure done in one of them.
Osinbajo was admitted to the Duchess International Hospital GRA, Lagos, on Saturday on account of a fracture of his right femur possibly related to a longstanding injury associated with a game of squash and undergone a successful surgical procedure.
The vice president is also expected to be discharged within the next few days.
His decision to use a hospital in the country instead of going overseas as politicians often do impressed many who took to social media to commend him.
Sharing a picture of doctors that performed the surgery on the vice president’s knee, Dunni Adeniyi, @dunnia33, said “This is the team of specialists that performed the surgery of Vice President Yemi Osinbajo. Who said we don’t have the best brain in Nigeria? We can always trust our medical team and thanks to VP Osinbajo for leading by example!”
Equally reacting, @DrJoeAbah tweeted, “VP Osinbajo had his surgery done in Nigeria. As it should be.”
@Osi_Suave stated, “The VP had his surgery done in Nigeria. Can’t lead people when you don’t believe in the health facilities.”
“The fact that he uses our local hospital is a thing of encouragement. May the good Lord grant him speedy recovery,” @ThormiwahEmman1 wrote.
“Something is special about this Osinbajo; he just believes in Nigeria. Instead of him to go on medical trip, he chose to treat himself in Nigeria,” @Adetutu wrote.

@AishaYesufu stated, “Wishing you a quick recovery. May God heal you completely.”
Meanwhile, President Muhammadu Buhari on Saturday wished Osinbajo a speedy and full recovery.
In a statement by presidential spokesman, Femi Adesina, the President gives glory to God for a successful surgery and prays for “speedy and full recovery,” commending the medical team at the Duchess International Hospital, Ikeja, Lagos, for “their competence, and a job well done.”
President Buhari assures VP Osinbajo of the prayers of Nigerians, and that of his family.
