The Pan – Yoruba socio-political Organisation, Afenifere, has warned that there will be no peace in Nigeria until the killers of acclaimed winner of the June 12, 1993 Presidential election, MKO Abiola are revealed.
National Publicity Secretary of the organisation, Yinka Odumakin, gave the warning while reacting to an assertion by former Chief of Army Staff, Gen Lt. Gen. Ishaya Bamaiyi (rtd), that Abiola did not die of natural causes while in detention.
Bamaiyi, in his new book, “Vindication of a General” challenged the then Head of State, Gen Abdulsalami Abubakar (rtd), to tell Nigerians what killed Abiola.
Bamaiyi, in his new book, “Vindication of a General” challenged the then Head of State, Gen Abdulsalami Abubakar (rtd), to tell Nigerians what killed Abiola.
Reacting to Bamaiyi’s claim, Odumakin called for the setting up of a Commission of Inquiry with the aim of revealing the killers of Abiola.
Odumakin, in a statement said: “For Afenifere, we insist on a probe of Abiola’s death; we suspected foul play all along.
“For an inner member of the military cabal to come out and say this, we insist that the Federal Government must set up a Commission of Inquiry into the death of Abiola.
“Abiola may be dead and buried but his ghost will continue to haunt those involved in his death. This country will not know peace until Abiola’s killers are unmasked.”
