For alleged refusal by Delta state governor, Ifeanyi Okowa to pay students of the state origin their bursary, the National Association of Delta State Students (NADESSU), Wednesday during a peaceful protest shut down the state bursary and scholarship board office and the government house gate.
The protesting students who were mobilised from various high institutions across the country led by the National President of NADESSU, Samson Agolo, accused the Okowa government of refusal to pay them their bursary despite all efforts to see that the money is paid to students.
However, the protest almost turned bloody when men of the Anti-Terrorism Squad attached to Government House teargassed the students following the refusal of the students to vacate the government house gate.
Speaking to HardReporters correspondent, the National President of NADESSU, Samson Agolo, said they were in Asaba to demand for what rightfully belong to them which is the Bursary “And governor Okowa has vehemently denied us that right. So we are saying until our bursary is given to us we shall continue to protest. Unlike the past government of Uduaghan, the Okowa government does not have human feelings for students.”
Our correspondent reliably gathered that as at the time the students were protesting and shutting down the Bursary and Scholarship Board office and government house in Asaba, governor Okowa was busy campaigning with his party, Peoples Democratic Party, (PDP), at Agbor ahead of the forthcoming January 6th, 2017 local government polls in the state.
