The Lagos State government has announced a bus fare increase of 18 percent on all Bus Reform Initiative (BRI) schemes in the state.

The Lagos Metropolitan Area Transport Authority (LAMATA) made the disclosure in a statement on Thursday.

“Please be informed that there will be an 18 percent increase in the bus fare on all Bus Reform Initiative (BRI) schemes. The fare increase is because of the increase in the cost of operations and the need to ensure that buses keep running and guarantee your movement around Lagos,” LAMATA said.

The new fare will take effect from February 17, 2025.

LAMATA said it seeks the cooperation of Lagos residents as the Bus Rapid Transport (BRT) system, part of the Bus Reform Initiative Schemes, will be introducing new fares in 2025.
