Two patients have died of coronavirus-related complications in Lagos State, bringing the total number of COVID-19 fatalities recorded in the state to 18.
The state’s Commissioner for Health, Prof. Akin Abayomi, made this known via his Twitter handle on Thursday.
He also confirmed that 74 new COVID-19 cases were recorded in Lagos on Wednesday.
“Total number of confirmed #COVID19 cases in Lagos rises to 512. Lagos recorded two more COVID-19 related deaths. Total Lagos COVID-19 deaths are now 18,” he tweeted.
This newspaper reports that the 74 new coronavirus cases recorded in Lagos on Wednesday are the highest to be reported in any Nigerian state within 24 hours.
The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control, who made this known, added that the total number of infections in Nigeria has risen to 873.
The NCDC also noted that Lagos has the highest number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in the country.
The NCDC said, “On the 22nd of April 2020, 91 new confirmed cases of COVID-19 were recorded in Nigeria. Till date, 873 cases have been confirmed, 197 cases have been discharged and 28 deaths have been recorded in Nigeria.
