President Muhammadu Buhari is currently on inspection of the scene of the attack at the Kuje prison in Abuja, Federal Capital Territory by terrorists.
Gunmen had attacked the prison with explosives on Tuesday night.
The ministry of interior said about 600 inmates escaped from the correctional facility but 300 have been recaptured.
The President is currently going around the attacked facility in the company of some officials and top security Chiefs.
President Buhari is expected to depart for Dakar, Senegal, later today.
