There is rising tension at the Lagos State House of Assembly as former Speaker Mudashiru Obasa made a sudden appearance amid a deepening crisis involving the current Speaker, Mojisola Meranda.

The Witness gathered that Obasa arrived at the assembly around 11:55 AM, flanked by heavily armed police officers and civil defense personnel.

His unexpected arrival has caused alarm among assembly staff, leaving them fearful and uncertain of his intentions.

Obasa’s sudden re-entry has raised questions about whether he is making a move to reclaim his former position.

Two of the 39 lawmakers, Ayinde Akinsanya (Osmak), representing Mushin Constituency I, and Noheem Adams, representing Mushin Constituency II, accompanied Obasa to the Assembly complex.

By the time of filing this report, Obasa’s loyalists had forcibly opened the doors to the Speaker’s office. It was also reported that armed miscreants had accompanied Obasa, with the intent to take control of the complex and resume office.

Meanwhile, the access roads leading to the Assembly complex had been taken over by individuals suspected to be Obasa’s supporters, blocking all entrances and forcing motorists to use alternative routes.

The development has further intensified the situation following reports that Speaker Mojisola Meranda’s security details were abruptly withdrawn, while those of the former speaker were restored.

Meranda, who was Obasa’s deputy before his impeachment, was unanimously elected as his successor, making her the first female Speaker in the history of the state.
