Authorities in India say they have arrested a Nigerian woman for allegedly smuggling heroin worth Rs 30 crore into the country.
The suspect was arrested by customs at Indira Gandhi International (IGI) airport in Delhi.
She was intercepted after her arrival from Lagos State via Doha on Monday, October 31, 2022.
About four kg of heroin, valued at Rs 30 crore, which was concealed inside cavities of a bag was recovered from her possession.
The Indian custom authorities confirmed the incident in a tweet on its page.
“Air customs@igia have arrested one Nigerian pax after narcotics was found secreted in the cavities of bag. This yielded a total of 4000 gms of heroin valued at Rs 30 cr. which has been seized. Further investigation in the matter is under process,” it posted.
Further confirming the incident, a local Indian journalist, Sanjay Tripathi said, “Air customs IGI have arrested one Nigerian lady pax who arrived on 31st after narcotic was found secreted in the cavities of bag. This yielded a total of 4000 gms of heroin valued at Rs 30 cr which has been seized.”
