Two men, Dupe Adewole (30) and Abiodun Oladimeji (21), have been arrested for allegedly hypnotising a 17-year-old girl and stealing her parents’ N90,000. Adewole and Oladimeji were arrested by men of the Ondo State Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC).
The state NSCDC Commandant, Mr. Adeyinka Fasiu, who disclosed this yesterday while parading the suspects along with four others arrested for fraud and cultistism. According to him, the suspects have been terrorising Akure, the state capital. According to the commandant, Adewole and Oladimeji hypnotised a 17-year-old girl, Moturayo, and asked her to go and bring her parents’ money.
The commandant added that Adewole and Oladimeji also threatened their victim that if she told anybody she would run mad. In fear, the teenager went home to steal her parents’ N90,000 and gave it to the suspects.
Fasiu gave the names of other suspects as Akeem Oyewole (20), Oni Abiodun (33), Aron Sunday (20) and Anes John (28). Fasiu said Oyewole was arrested after he and members of his gang successfully duped a student of Rufus Giwa Polytechnic, Owo, Omokehinde Idowu.
Idowu, according to him, was going to school when the fraudsters accosted him, took him to their hideout and collected his N58,000 school fee, Techno W3 phone and wallet which contained school ID card and voter’s card from him.
Fasiu said Oni Abiodun was arrested for buying Techno W3 phone which was collected from Idowu. He also said Sunday was arrested for cultism for attacking a fellow student with a machete during an inter-house sports competition.
The commandant disclosed that Sunday was caught with an axe and an arrow suspected to have been used to perpetrate the act. According to him, John was arrested for house breaking. Fasiu said all the suspects were still under investigation and would be charged to court immediately after thorough investigation.
He warned criminals in the state to relocate from the state otherwise the long arm of the law would soon catch up with them. The commandant also urged the good people of the state to give useful information about the criminal elements to the security agents in order to rid the state of all forms of criminality.
