Lieutenant Commander M. Buba of the Nigerian Navy has been fatally stabbed by a suspected phone snatcher in Kaduna State.
The incident reportedly occurred around 4 a.m. on Sunday at a bus stop near the Kawo flyover in Kaduna.
Buba was said to have stepped out of his vehicle after one of its tyres deflated.
It was during this time that a suspected phone snatcher approached and demanded the officer’s mobile phones. Buba refused, prompting the assailant to stab him in the chest with a knife.
Confirming the incident, Kaduna State Police Public Relations Officer, Mansir Hassan, said the naval officer sustained serious injuries and was rushed to Manaal Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead by a medical doctor.
Hassan also revealed that one Suleiman Dahiru, who tried to assist the officer during the attack, was stabbed in the hand and is currently undergoing treatment.
“The body of late Buba has been deposited at the 44 Nigerian Army Reference Hospital mortuary. The deceased was in his black Toyota vehicle with registration number APP-745HT, when the incident happened,” Hassan stated.
He added that the suspect tried to flee the scene but was overpowered by an angry mob and beaten to death.
