A coalition of civil society and the All Progressives Congress Core Supporters Network have urged the APC to adopt former Lagos State Governor, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu as its presidential candidate in order not to lose power to main opposition in 2023.
According to them, Tinubu has what it takes to lead Nigeria in difficult times such as the one the country is going through.
Delivering a lecture on the theme: Strategic Approach in Achieving Consensus Building in Nigeria Presidential Election: Tinubu the Hope of the Masses, Prof Katuka Yaki, noted that for Nigeria to overcome her current challenges, the people need to vote in someone with demonstrated capability, courageous and having the interest of the country at heart.
While stating that there are lots of credible and capable persons in the APC to take over from President Muhammadu Buhari, Katuka was of the view that consensus building would help the APC resolve conflicts that may arise in choosing its candidate.
According to him, the 2023 election journey would not be an easy one because in politics there must be conflict.
“In fact the beauty of politics is conflict. That is why the concept of consensus building is mostly used in conflict management because it is a veritable approach in resolving multi party differences”, he said, adding that the consensus should be built around Tinubu because he has the ability to solve Nigeria’s problems.
While recalling how Tinubu survived without subvention from the federal government, Katuka claimed that most state governors cannot manage their states without subvention from the federal government.
“Tinubu knows how to generate revenue, build infrastructure and this is what Nigeria needs now”, Katuka said.
