Governor Ugwuanyi commissions sites and services at the CBN Co-operative Solar City Estate in Enugu

The governor of Enugu state, Chief Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi has reiterated his pledge to support the first solar powered estate being built by the Co-operative society of Central Bank of Nigeria, in partnership with Geometrix Homes and Estates ltd.

The governor made this pledge, while commissioning the completed sites and services phase of the estate.

The governor, who was represented by the secretary to the Enugu State Government, Prof. Simon Ortuanya expressed his delight that the co-operative had kept to their promise to actualize the project for the benefit of their members and other interested subscribers within Enugu state and beyond.

Earlier in his welcome address, the Governor  of the Central Bank of Nigeria – Mr. Godwin Emefiele decried the huge housing deficit in the country. The CBN Governor, who was represented by the CBN Enugu Regional Branch Controller – Ogbueshi Chidozie Okonjo, noted that housing production in the country caters mainly for the upper income households, leaving an acute shortage for middle- and low-income earners.

He noted that with the co-operation and logistic support of the Enugu state Government, the CBN Co-operative had achieved a critical milestone towards providing an affordable housing solution which every member could benefit from, irrespective of their financial status.

Governor Ugwuanyi observed that the housing project, though undertaken by the co-operative, enjoyed the support and co-operation of the CBN leadership.

He said that the project was an indication that the CBN has staff welfare as one of its area of importance.

The developer of the estate: Geometrix Homes and Estates Ltd, led by its chief operating officer: Arc. Uche Uche, disclosed that the Estate, which has 180 plots, with over 230 dwelling units on a plot size of over 14 hectares will be powered by solar Energy.

He explained that the commissioning of the completed sited and services of the estate, will usher in the next phase, which will be the construction of the houses within the estate.

He said that since the commencement of construction of the sites and services, the neighborhood has witnessed a leap in commercial activities.

He listed some of the gains of the project to the community to include:

  1. Massive employment of artisans and experts working on the project.
  2. Upgrading of the status of the neighborhood to an investment destination.
  3. Appreciation of value of plots within the area.
  4. Performing corporate social responsibility, by constructing the access road to the estate.
  5. Generating revenue for the state, through property taxes of houses within the estate.

He promised that the project when completed, will become a haven of peace and an environmentally friendly estate where the source of power would be Solar energy.
