Asiya-Balaraba Ganduje, daughter of Abdullahi Ganduje, governor of Kano, has filed for divorce from Inuwa Uba, her husband.
Asiya-Balaraba approached a Sharia court in Kano to demand an end to their 16-year-old marriage, Daily Trust reported.
It is understood that the case was heard by Khadi Abdullahi Halliru, the judge, in his chamber due to the personalities involved and the sensitivity of the matter.
In her petition before the court, the governor’s daughter said she is “fed up” with her marriage, and prayed the court to approve her request for dissolution.
Asiya-Balaraba also told the court to apply the Islamic principles of khul’i to dissolve the marriage.
In his reaction, Uba opposed his wife’s request for the dissolution of their marriage.
The businessman insisted that he still loves his wife, and prayed the court to give them more time to resolve the matter amicably.
In his ruling, the judge adjourned the case to January 5 for the continuation of trial.
Halliru also asked Uba to utilise the two weeks given to him to settle the matter.
During the court session, journalists were reportedly barred by the judge, citing the personalities involved in the case.
Asiya-Balaraba is said to have been at loggerheads with her parents for backing her husband despite the corruption allegations against him.
