The former governor of Delta State, Dr Emmanuel Uduaghan, has called on security agents to fish out killers of Itsekiri leader, Pa Joseph Ayomike and his wife, Dr Mrs Chiyere Ayomike, in their GRA residence in Warri, Delta State.
The couple’s mutilated and decomposing bodies, it will be recalled, were discovered inside one of the rooms in their residence on Monday morning after security operatives broke in to unravel the offensive odour oozing out of the house.
Saddened by the octogenarian, Uduaghan, in a statement by his Media Assistant, Monoyo Edon, condoled with the family but charged security agents to thoroughly dig deep into the circumstances surrounding the heinous murder of the couple and apprehend the culprits.
The Itsekiri-born medical doctor, who wondered what could be the offence of a leader he described as very “quiet” to have been so cruelly murdered, further called for a speedy investigation into the saga.
“His Excellency, Dr Emmanuel Eweta Uduaghan, CON, the Immediate Past Governor of Delta State is heart-wrenched over the barbaric murder of Pa Ayomike and his dear wife -Dr Mr Ayomike whose corpses were found in their Warri GRA residence in the morning of Monday, June 28, 2021.
“Dr Uduaghan, whose wife Her Excellency Mrs Roli Sheila Uduaghan is a niece of late PA Ayomike, has tasked security agencies to launch a rapid and thorough investigation into the murder of the founder of Warri Choral Society (WCS) and his wife who, until their death was a senior lecturer at the Delta State University, Abraka.
“The Ayomikes were very peaceful and quiet people. Why would anyone want to kill them and in the most dastardly manner in which they were killed?
“This sad event has thrown my family and everyone close to the Ayomikes in a state of deep grief.
“A respected Itsekiri and community leader, Late Pa Ayomike was a renowned Economist who graduated from the London School of Economics.
“He was a very successful businessman, especially in the hospitality industry, at various times running some of the busiest restaurants in Nigeria.
“He was also the founder of Agura Hotel in Abuja. A nationally and internationally renowned organist, he formed the Warri Choral Society, which organised annual programmes in Warri.
“The security agencies have been challenged to do all they can to apprehend and prosecute everyone involved in this murder.
“Late Pa Joe Ayomike was a brother to foremost Itsekiri historian and Chairman of the Itsekiri Leaders of Thought (ILoT), late Pa J.O.S Ayomike,” the former governor added.
