The Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) has confirmed a fire incident at a one-storey building in the Alapere area of Lagos.
LASEMA’s Permanent Secretary, Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu, said the agency received distress calls around 8:55 a.m. on Sunday reporting the fire at No. 16B, Agidi Road, Osogun Bus Stop, Alapere.
“In response, LASEMA activated the state’s emergency response plans from its command and control centre in Alausa, Ikeja.
“Upon arrival, LASEMA discovered that the upper floor of the building, which housed four self-contained apartments, was engulfed in flames. Fortunately, the fire did not spread to the ground floor.
“Preliminary investigations revealed that the fire originated from one of the kitchens due to an electrical power surge, which quickly spread to other areas of the apartment, causing significant damage.
“No casualties or fatalities were reported. LASEMA, in collaboration with the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, successfully contained and extinguished the fire.
“The response team implemented necessary safety precautions to prevent further spread and secondary incidents, while search and rescue operations confirmed that no individuals were trapped.
“The upper floor of the building suffered considerable structural and material losses, but the ground floor remained unaffected.
“The incident has now been brought under control, and the fire has been completely extinguished, with all operations concluded,”
