The founder of FunmiAyinke Humanity Foundation, Engr Funmilayo Waheed is set to host over 500 students to a Valentine day hangout in Lagos next week.
The students, drawn from across higher institutions from all over the country were picked from among the hundreds who have benefited from her scholarship programme are going to be meeting her for the first time even though they have over the years, been angling to have a face to face encounter with the woman who has been transforming their lives by picking their school bills.
The event, with the Theme: Charting Your own Course and Destiny is expected to feature a lot of activities that will further help in empowering the students to combat the challenges they face as indigent students.
This is the second phase in the series of consultations that the FHF founder would be having with beneficiaries of her philanthropic activities. In December 2019, she met over 3,000 widows and single mothers and shared griding machines foodstuff and cash running into hundreds of millions of Naira to women in Ogun State.
The Ogun event for widows has been an annual event which has grown in proportion and dimensions over the years. Over 10,000 women are believed to have benefited since it started.
Funmilayo Waheed, an academic and a Fellow of Nigeria Institute of Mechanical Engineers has this crazy dream that as long as she lives no widow must be left uncatered for. This is because of her encounter with poverty as undergraduate brought up by a single mother.
The financial distress in her family forced her to drop out of Medical School at 400 level and eventually graduated in Engineering.
This setback she sets out to combat with her various programmes targeted at single mothers, widows and indigent students.
