Dr. Emmanuel Eweta Uduaghan, CON, the immediate-past governor of Delta State, on Monday, unveiled the University of Benin (UNIBEN) 50th anniversary book at the Ugbowo Campus of the institution, Benin City.
The event was in commemoration of the 50 years anniversary of the university billed for last year but was moved to 2021 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Dr. Uduaghan, who is an alumnus of the institution said he is proud to have passed through the proven “academic refinery” which certified him “Worthy in Learning and Character” many years ago.
The two-termed former Governor of Delta state hailed the institution for preparing him and other greats who passed through the institution for the various leadership and professional portfolios they have held in Nigeria and globally.
“I can not forget the medical school. As we were driving into the campus, I was filled with nostalgia from my days here. Thank you for unflaggingly churning out great minds for over fifty years.”
Dr. Uduaghan also thanked edolites like the former Governor of then Bendel State and founding father of the university and others who laid the foundation for what has now become an academic powerhouse fifty years after.
While establishing his Edo links, he used the opportunity to pay glowing tributes to mothers. Stating that his maternal link with Edo state played a very useful role in his emergence as two-term Governor of Delta State.
The former governor further tasked the management of the university not to rest on their laurels. He used the opportunity to also congratulate the newly installed Pro Chancellor of the University of Benin, His Royal Majesty, the Tor Tiv on his well deserved appointment.
High point of the event was the unveiling of the book chronicling the 50 years journey of the university by the former governor.
