The Edo State Government has sealed a brothel discovered within the premises of a primary school in Esan West Local Government Area.
This was revealed on Friday by Mr. Eugene Okolosie, Edo State Coordinator for the Protection of Government Property (PGP), during a media briefing in Benin City.
According to Okolosie, the illicit structure is part of a broader pattern of encroachment, with more than 2,000 plots of government land already seized by land grabbers—including the brothel found inside the school premises.
He further disclosed that over 150,000 houses in Edo State are currently sited on government-owned land without proper authorization.
He cautioned prospective land developers to verify their documents through the Edo Geographic Information Service (EdoGIS) to avoid being duped by fraudulent land speculators.
“In Ujuele Primary School, a brothel was built inside the school compound. We have sealed off the brothel, and some of these illegally acquired properties will be repurposed. We are currently in discussion with the governor on the next steps,” Okolosie said.
He added that the agency is also addressing other alarming cases of illegal land deals involving public institutions.
“In Iyoba Girls College in Benin, the community illegally divided a public school into two and sold half to private individuals.”
