The Delta State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of a contender for the throne of Idumuje-Ugboko in the Aniocha North Local Government Area of the state, Prince Chukwunonso Nwoko.
The police said Nwoko was incriminated in an alleged murder case.
The Commissioner of Police, Mr Hafiz Inuwa, told journalists in Warri on Saturday that the arrest of the self-acclaimed monarch, who has yet to be given the staff of office by the state government, was in connection with a suspected murder case.
Inuwa stated, “We have arrested him for a case of suspected murder and efforts were made for him to appear before the police, but he failed to do so.
“So, we arrested him early this morning (Saturday). He is presently with us. He is undergoing investigation.”
There had been speculations that he was abducted from his palace by gunmen around 2am, but the CP confirmed that his men arrested the prince over a murder case.
This newspaper gathered that Nwoko regained his freedom after nine hours in the custody of the police.
