President Muhammadu Buhari has congratulated Chinese president, Xi Jinping on his re-election as leader of the Communist Party of China.
The Chinese president was confirmed as leader of China for a third term on Sunday.
The 69-year-old communist leader was also reappointed head of China’s central military commission, keeping him in charge of the People’s Liberation Army.
In a statement by Garba Shehu, presidential spokesman, Buhari expressed hope that the Chinese leader’s reelection would deepen Nigeria’s partnership with the Asian country.
“I hope your re-election would pave the way for deeper and enduring partnership and strategic cooperation that would be mutually beneficial to our two countries,” the statement reads.
“I believe that the development of infrastructure, such as railways, dams and roads construction, power generating plants, as well as trade exchanges, would receive a strong boost.”
