Seun Kuti, Afrobeat singer and son of Nigerian music legend, Fela Kuti, was on Monday morning taken into custody after he turned himself in following an incident where he was captured in a video slapping an officer in Lagos.
The Lagos State command of the Nigerian Police Force on Monday transferred his case to the Criminal Investigation Department Panti for further investigations.
Benjamin Hundeyin, state spokesman of the police told our correspondent Seun Kuti came early in the morning and was accompanied to the headquarters by a lawyer from the chamber of Femi Falana SAN.
“He came this morning and he has been transferred to the State CID Panti,” Hundeyin said.
The singer was caught on camera on Saturday assaulting a police officer on the Third Mainland Bridge.
He was ordered arrested by the Inspector General of Police Usman Baba Alkali.
Meanwhile, more trouble seems to be looming for the singer, as a new video of him bragging about having slapped several police officers has emerged.
Although the exact time of this video is yet to be ascertained, Seun could be heard in the video saying his action stemmed from knowing who he is.
“Some of una police go slap una, una go come Instagram to explain. You know how many police I don tear slap?” he asked in pidgin.
