Mudashiru Obasa, the impeached speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, has regained his position.
Obasa was removed from office in January following accusations of gross abuse of office and corruption. However, after several meetings with party leaders and the intervention of the presidency, Obasa has returned to the role of Speaker, following the resignation of Mojisola Meranda earlier on Monday. Meranda had succeeded Obasa after his impeachment.
Recent reports suggest that President Bola Tinubu did not support Obasa’s impeachment and has been working to ensure his reinstatement.
The president is believed to have requested that Obasa resign shortly after reassuming office to bring an end to the leadership crisis.
