The Inspector General of Police, Mr Usman Alkali Baba, on Thursday, ordered an “internal review” of the allegations against one of its personel, DCP Abba Kyari, over his alleged dealings with an alleged fraudster, Ramon Abass, popularly known as Hushpuppi.
The social media was awash on Thursday following a US Justice Department report which indicted Abba Kyari and which accused him of having dealings with Hushpuppi, and a US court was also said to have ordered the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) to look into the case.
However, aparently following the reactions generated over the matter, the IG on Thursday night ordered what the police called “internal review” of the allegations against DCP Abba Kyari.
A statement issued on Thursday night by Frank Mba, the Force Public Relations Officer, said this became necessary as the Nigeria Police Force reaffirms its commitment to the pursuit of justice and the strengthening of its professional relationship with the FBI and other international partners.
According to the three-paragraph statement: “Sequel to the receipt of allegations and indictment processes from the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) against one of the personnel of the Nigeria Police Force, DCP Abba Kyari, the Inspector General of Police IGP Usman Alkali Baba, has ordered an internal review of the allegations.
“The Nigeria Police Force reaffirms its commitment to the pursuit of justice and the strengthening of its professional relationship with the FBI and other international partners.
“Further developments on this case will be communicated to members of the public accordingly.”
