The Inspector General of Police (IGP), Usman Alkali Baba, has ordered non uniformed policemen to stay away from stop and search duties at check points across the country.
Muyiwa Adejobi, acting Force Public Relations Officer, announced the development in a statement on Friday.
Adejobi said the IGP instructed that every policeman standing on the road must be dressed in proper uniform for easy identification.
“Ladies and gentlemen, we commend you for ur understanding and support at all times. The IGP has ordered that every policeman standing on the road for stop and search, check point, or/and patrol duties must be on approved uniform for easy identification and authority,” he said.
“Every police uniform must bear name and force number for other ranks. We have taken this step to sanitise our operational engagements and have better human relations.”
