BREAKING: Fulani herders storm Benue village, kill three
Three persons have been confirmed killed by herdsmen in Tse-Akaa village, Ugondo Mbamar District of Logo Local Government Area of Benue State.
This was coming a few days after the Benue State House of Assembly passed the bill for a law to prohibit Open Rearing and Grazing of Livestock in the state.
Daily Sun gathered that trouble started around 2:00p.m on Sunday, while the herdsmen, who were moving their cattle away from the area had a clash with some villagers. It was gathered that the herdsmen began to shoot sporadically at the villagers.
A source from the area who gave her name as Margaret Acka said three persons were killed in the process while several others were injured by the rampaging herdsmen leaving many missing while several others were presently taking refuge at a nearby village.
According to Acka, “Fulani herdsmen were in my father’s house today (Sunday) afternoon shooting and killing at will. Three reported dead and others wounded. When will this end?”
Another eyewitness, who simply gave his name as James, said the herdsmen launched the attack at about 5pm yesterday just as the villagers were coming out from Sunday evening service.
The attackers were said to have come from the Taraba axis, through Abaji, Mbamar, Ugondo and busted out at Akaa, shooting sporadically at the village market square.
When contacted, the state Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), ASP Moses Yamu who confirmed the report said the suspected Fulani herdsmen who were relocating from the area as a result of the onset of the raining season had a clash with the villagers.
“Three persons were killed in the process but the police immediately mobilised to the area and I can assure you that peace had now been restored there.”
