The Kaduna State chapter of the Academic Staff Union of Secondary Schools (ASUSS) says bandits killed over 10 teachers and kidnapped over 50 others across the 23 local government areas, LGAs of Kaduna State from January 2022 till date.
Ishaya Dauda ASUSS’s Chairman, made the disclosure at a briefing on Wednesday, as part of activities to commemorate the 2022 International World Teachers’ Day with the theme; “The transformation of Education begins with teachers”.
He pleaded with Governor Nasir el-Rufa’i to use every means possible to rescue the teachers and others in the kidnappers’ captivity.
“More than 10 secondary school teachers were killed and over 50 others abducted from January 2022 till date in Kaduna and the abducted teachers are still in Captivity. There is no organization that has been affected by insecurity in Kaduna State,” he said.
“The union is fully aware of the insecurity that is threatening the cooperate existence of Kaduna State citizens especially in our schools. We are equally aware of efforts being made by the State government towards the recruitment of Kaduna State vigilante service to secure our Schools.”
