Furera Abubakar, a 107-year-old woman and Isah Hassan, 17, have been remanded in custody by a Kano State Chief Magistrate’s Court for allegedly removing the right eye of a 12-year-old boy, Mustapha Yunusa, with a knife to prepare charm for disappearance.
The duo are standing trial before the court presided over Muhammad Jibrin, on two counts bordering on criminal conspiracy and attempt to commit culpable homicide.
The prosecution stated that the defendants committed the offences on March 19, 2022, at Rimin Hamza Quarters, in the Tarauni Local Government Area of Kano State.
”On the same date, around 9pm, the defendants conspired, deceived and lured the 12-year-old boy to a nearby stream and plucked out his right eye with a sharp knife.
“As a result, the victim sustained grievous injuries and was rushed to the Murtala Muhammad Specialist Hospital, where he was admitted for treatment,” the FIR added.
The pleas of the defendants were not taken.
The principal state counsel, Lamido Dinki, said the offences contravened sections 97 and 229 of the Penal Code.
The magistrate ordered the remand of the defendants in a custodial centre and adjourned the case till April 11, 2022, for mention.
Abubakar is said to have instructed Hassan to bring a human eye after the teenager approached her for ritual to “disappear and appear.”
