Obinna Iyiegbu, aka Obi Cubana, popular socialite, last night remained in the custody of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) more than 24 hours after he was invited by the anti-graft agency, The Witness reports.
Mr Iyiegbu (Cubana) was invited and quizzed by the anti-graft agency on Monday over allegations of money laundering and tax fraud.
According to sources, the Anambra-born businessman was still undergoing interrogation at the agency as at last night over his involvement in various illegal deals.
The EFCC spokesman, Wilson Uwujaren, also confirmed the development to our reporter.
“He is still with us,” he said in a phone chat.
Mr Iyiegbu (Cubana) held a lavish funeral for his mother, Ezinne Iyiegbu, in Oba, Anambra State in July.
Since the talk-of-the-town burial, Mr Iyiegbu has become an inspirational grass-to-grace figure appearing in interviews where he told stories of how he started in a one-room apartment as a fresh graduate undergoing the mandatory national youth service in Abuja in 1999.
He told BBC Pidgin that he started as an estate agent and made his first N1 million through a house furnishing contract he got at that time.
Today, he sits atop sprawling investments in entertainment, hospitality, real estate, among others.
More to come…
