As the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) convention slated for 30th and 31st of October 2021, draws closer in Abuja, thousands of the All Progressives Congress (APC) members are set to join the PDP in Edo State.
The decampees include a prominent Warri chieftain who was instrumental and played a major key role in the crowning of the new Olu of Warri, Chief Johnson Atseleghe, the Iyatsere of Warri Kingdom.
Atseleghe will be leading thousands of loyalists and supporters drawn from various oil-producing communities in Ikpoba-Okha LGA of Edo State to the PDP.
Speaking in an interview with newsmen on Wednesday, Comrade Isaac Ajatiton, the chairman of the Itsekiri National Youth Council INYC and a two-time youth chairman in Ajoki community of Ikpoba-Okha LGA said, “It is a welcome development. These communities from where the decampees come from have been peace-loving communities in Edo State and as such they would love to collaborate with the government to continue to bring various developments to their communities”.
He passed a vote of confidence on the Edo State governor, Governor Godwin Obaseki, whom he described as a true leader and a go-getter.
In her words, the mediator and facilitator of the peace deal, Miss Laura Buwa-Udah, a staunch grassroots politician and PDP chieftain, expressed her joy over the development, stressing that the communities cannot afford to be in opposition.
Buwa-Udah further stated that the decampees now have equal membership rights in the party irrespective of when they joined, and promised that their loyalty would be rewarded if they contribute to the success of the party in various elections.
The governor, Governor Godwin Obaseki, PDP state party chairman Mr. Tony Aziegbemi and other PDP party leaders in Edo State will be receiving the decampees before the slated national convention in Abuja in a ceremony in Edo State.
