The candidate of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) in the Osun governorship election, Iyiola Omisore, has agreed to work with the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in Thursdays rerun.
Omisore resolution follows a visit paid him by high-ranking members of the party to include National Chairman of the APC, Adams Oshiomhole; Kano governor, Abdullahi Ganduje and Minister of Information and Culture, Lai Mohammed.
Recall that Omisore had promised to help Senator Ademola Adeleke of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) defeat APC’s Isiaka Gboyega Oyetola.
He made the pledge after senate president Bukola Saraki visited him on Monday.
“Thank you your Excellency the senate president, senator @bukolasaraki for the visit, together we shall make Osun great again. #OsunDecides2018 #goodgovernanceinosunstate,” he had tweeted after the visit.
Similarly, former Aviation Minister, Chief Femi Fani-Kayode, had assured that the SDP governorship candidate will help the PDP “win the election.
“Senator Iyiola Omisore will not let us down. He is my cousin and I have spoken with him at length. We are together. We will show Tinubu what happens when the Ifes stand together,” Fani-Kayode wrote on his Facebook wall.
However, in what seems to be an apparent change of mind, Omisore, has pledged his support to the APC.
He said this while addressing journalists at his residence in Ile Ife on Wednesday.
He said, “We have accepted to support the APC for victory in the rerun election tomorrow and thereafter form a coalition government.”
Recall that Adeleke polled 254,699, Oyetola had 254,345 votes, while Omisore polled 128,049 to come third.
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) declared the poll inconclusive because the number of cancelled votes, 3,498, exceeds the margin between Adeleke and Oyetola which is 353 votes.
