Joint Action Committee (JAC) of the Non-Academic staff union of Nigerian universities took over the National Assembly Complex owing to unresolved disagreements with the Federal Government.
The workers coalesced under the aegis of Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU), Non-Academic Staff Union of Educational Institutions (NASU), and the National Association of Academic Technologists (NAAT).
The aggrieved workers accused the Federal government of non-implementation of agreements reached in 2009 and 2017.
They also accused the government of violating agreement it has had with them on the formula for sharing N23 billion it released to the universities as earned allowances in which the Academic staff of universities reportedly took a bigger share.
The unions called a strike since December 4, 2017 and continued in protest today.
The protesters converged at entrance of ‘White House’ in the National Assembly complex seeking audience of the President of the Senate and Speaker of the House of Representatives on how to resolve crisis.
Speaking with our reporter, the President of NAAT, Sani Suleiman said:”We appeal to them to intervene. That is why we are here to express our concern on the lingering issues of agreements on some memorandum we have signed severally and nothing has been done on it.”
