The Delta state police command has rescued a kidnap victim, arrested three suspected armed robbers and recovered hard drugs in separate operations across the state.

The command disclosed the successes in a statement issued by SP Bright Edafe, its spokesperson on Friday.

According to the police, operatives of the Special Anti-Kidnapping and Cyber Crime Squad rescued a victim who was abducted by gunmen in Okpanam on June 10.

Following a report of the incident, security personnel launched an intelligence-driven operation to track the kidnappers and secure the victim’s release.

The command said sustained operational pressure and intelligence gathering forced the abductors to abandon the victim and flee their hideout.

The rescued individual was later reunited with family members after undergoing debriefing.

Police authorities added that efforts were ongoing to track down and arrest the fleeing suspects.

In a separate operation, officers attached to the Distress Response Patrol Team intercepted three young men travelling in a tricycle during a routine patrol in Asaba. A search reportedly led to the recovery of a locally fabricated Beretta pistol.

The suspects were identified as Ewendeze De-Grace, 19, Eruweghene Amede, 20, and Chukwuemeka Arinze, 21. Preliminary investigations allegedly linked them to the Aro Bagger confraternity, while further investigations continue.

Meanwhile, operatives of the Kwale Division arrested a 45-year-old woman, Ananyi Vivian, during a raid on a suspected drug distribution centre in Kwale.

Police said two male suspects fled upon sighting officers, while Vivian was arrested at the scene. Investigators reportedly discovered that the premises were being used for illicit drug-related activities.

The suspect allegedly admitted being aware of the illegal activities taking place at the location, while efforts have been intensified to arrest other individuals connected to the operation.

Commending officers involved in the various operations, CP Yemi Oyeniyi, Delta state commissioner of police praised their professionalism and vigilance. He reaffirmed the command’s commitment to tackling crime and urged residents to continue supporting law enforcement agencies with credible information.

The latest arrests come days after police operatives in the state also apprehended suspected fraudsters accused of using counterfeit United States dollar notes to defraud unsuspecting members of the public.
