The Kogi State Government has sealed the Daarul Kitab Islamic Training Centre located in Zariagi, Adavi Local Government Area, over allegations that the school was operating without official government approval.
The action follows the April 26 attack on the school by gunmen who abducted 23 pupils and the wife of the school proprietor.
All the victims were later rescued through a joint security operation involving the Nigerian Army, the Kogi State Police Command, and other security agencies.
The state Commissioner for Education, Wemi Jones, led officials of the ministry to shut down the school on Friday.
Jones directed the proprietor to report to the Ministry of Education immediately, stating that the centre would remain closed until it satisfies all legal and operational requirements.
“The Kogi State Government is alive to its responsibility of ensuring that schools in the state are conducive and safe for teaching and learning,” Jones said.
According to the commissioner, although the school proprietor had begun the registration process, the institution was not authorised to commence operations before obtaining full government approval.
He added that the government would continue monitoring schools across the state to ensure compliance with safety regulations and operational standards.
The earlier abduction incident had generated widespread concern after armed men reportedly invaded the premises and kidnapped the pupils alongside the proprietor’s wife.
