The Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has set N23.8 billion as its internally generated revenue (IGR) target for 2026.
This is an increase of N4 billion from its 2025 goal.
Muftau Bello, a director in the office of the registrar, Professor Ishaq Oloyede, presented the target and other budget proposals to the Senate Committee on Tertiary Institutions and TETFUND on Wednesday.
According to him, “a total of N30.6 billion budget profile is proposed by JAMB in 2026, out of which N23.8 billion is to be generated internally and N6 billion to be remitted into the federation account as operating surplus for the year.”
Bello also highlighted JAMB’s preparations for the 2026 UTME, saying 1,000 examination centres have been created, compared with fewer than 800 in 2025.
Reflecting on the previous year’s performance, he said, “in 2025, N18.5 billion was generated as IGR and N4 billion remitted to the federation account as operating surplus.”
While the committee praised JAMB’s performance, Senator Yohanna Amos (Adamawa North) urged a reduction in examination fees from the current N3,500.
Responding, Dr Bello noted, “The fee was N5,000 before the current Registrar reduced it to N3,500.”
