Nigeria’s palm oil output increased to 1.57 million tonnes in 2025, up from 1.28 million tonnes in 2020.
The figures were disclosed by the Council of Palm Oil Producing Countries during a mission visit to Abuja.
Izzana Salleh, secretary-general of the council of palm oil producing countries, noted that the engagement forms part of efforts to deepen collaboration with African producers and support Nigeria’s long-term palm oil strategy.
“Together, producing nations can shape a stronger, more coordinated global voice that protects farmer livelihoods and advances food security,” she stated.
According to Izzana Salleh, domestic consumption has also risen from 2.45 million tonnes to 2.61 million tonnes, widening the supply gap currently filled through imports.
She added that the council is ready to support Nigeria in boosting production and strengthening a sustainable palm oil value chain.
Meanwhile, Alphonsus Inyang, President of the national palm produce association of Nigeria, said full membership of the council would give Nigeria access to improved technologies and capacity-building programmes for smallholder farmers.
According to Alphonsus Inyang, enhanced collaboration could help narrow the supply gap and improve competitiveness across the sector.
