Shehu Sani has urged the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission to investigate Nasir El-Rufai, former Kaduna State over alleged financial impropriety and abuse of office.
Speaking at a press conference in Kaduna on Sunday, Sani urged security and anti-corruption agencies to probe what he described as the mismanagement of public funds between 2015 and 2023.
According to Shehu Sani, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission should act on the reported indictment of the former governor by the Kaduna State House of Assembly.
He insisted that no individual should be above the law.
Shehu Sani alleged that Kaduna State witnessed hardship, insecurity, demolitions and human rights violations during the period under review.
He described the era as one of the most difficult in the state’s history.
In addition, he questioned Nasir El-Rufai’s democratic credentials, alleging that journalists, activists and clerics were arrested or detained during the administration.
He also urged security agencies to intensify efforts to uncover the circumstances surrounding the disappearance of Abubakar Idris, popularly known as Dadiyata, who has been missing since 2019.
The remarks followed recent comments by Nasir El-Rufai during an interview on Arise TV, where he criticised the current administration.
According to Shehu Sani, the criticism was contradictory, noting that the former governor had campaigned for President Bola Tinubu in 2023.
Shehu Sani further claimed that the former governor lost political relevance before leaving office.
He commended Governor Uba Sani for improvements in security, particularly a reduction in kidnappings, and urged residents to support ongoing peace initiatives.
However, Nasir El-Rufai has repeatedly denied wrongdoing, maintaining that his administration implemented reforms aimed at improving governance and fiscal discipline in Kaduna State.
