The Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA) has issued a warning to the public over viral reports suggesting that the agency is currently recruiting new staff.

George Ene-Ita, director, public affairs department, NMDPRA, made the clarification on Monday, stressing that the authority is not hiring at any level.

The regulator said the misleading information is being circulated by fraudulent syndicates seeking to exploit job seekers through false assurances.

The agency also explained that the fraudsters typically issue fake “letters of employment”, make empty promises, and advertise positions that do not exist.

“The Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA) is compelled to publish this disclaimer alerting the public to the activities of some unscrupulous persons who are exploiting young, economically vulnerable and unsuspecting Nigerians perhaps into parting with huge sums of money for purported employment opportunities into the Authority,” the statement reads.

“We wish to use this opportunity to state categorically that the NMDPRA is NOT conducting any recruitment exercise currently. Neither is the Agency undertaking any kind of employment into its services at any level.

“For the avoidance of doubt, any future recruitment exercise would be undertaken in accordance with extant rules guiding such exercises in the Nigerian Public Service.

“In this regard therefore, we would like to advise the public and all Nigerians to ignore these spurious claims by unscrupulous people whose only objective is to defraud Nigerians and cast aspersion on the Authority.”

NMDPRA further advised members of the public to rely solely on its official website and verified social media platforms for accurate and up-to-date information on its activities.
