Prof. Bode Ayorinde, pro-chancellor and chairman of the governing council of Achievers University, Owo, Ondo state, says 32 students have been expelled from the institution for various misconducts, including sex video offences and  examination clearance fraud.

In his address during the university’s 19th matriculation ceremony, Ayorinde revealed that 15 of the expelled students were dismissed over the sex video issue.

He explained that the institution had also dismissed 17 students for engaging in fraudulent activities to get examination clearance without paying their school fees.

Ayorinde cautioned the new students to be wary of social media pitfalls that could damage their futures.

He warned, “If you put your phone before you and you’re dancing naked and they put Achievers University, I will dismiss you. Use social media for positive things.”

He also recounted an incident where a student, who would have graduated, was dismissed for threatening to deal with Boko Haram if they came to Achievers University. He said the student was refunded his N2.3 million and expelled for the threat.

Ayorinde further emphasized the university’s zero tolerance for drug abuse, stating that any student caught using drugs would be expelled.

He also condemned bullying, reiterating that all students are equal, and those caught engaging in such acts would be expelled immediately.

While addressing parents and guardians, Ayorinde urged them to remain vigilant and continue reminding their children about the importance of being serious and avoiding wrongdoings.

He also warned against physical altercations and alcohol consumption, as these would lead to expulsion.

The Pro-Chancellor also added that the university would not tolerate any form of sexual molestation, and any staff or student found guilty of such acts would face severe consequences.

In his speech, the Acting Vice-Chancellor of the university, Prof. Amos Aremu, stressed that Achievers University places high importance on quality assurance, discipline, and academic integrity.

He advised the matriculating students not to view their admission as merely a ticket to higher education but as an opportunity for self-discovery, intellectual growth, and societal impact.

The Vice-Chancellor also cautioned the students against engaging in social ills such as cultism, examination malpractice, cybercrime, sexual impropriety, and especially drug abuse, which he said could destroy their potential. He assured the students that the university would provide a safe, intellectually stimulating environment for them to thrive.
