A fire outbreak on Tuesday destroyed the RSK Adebowale Multipurpose Filling Station, a petrol tanker and a motorcycle in the Ofiki area of Saki, Oyo State.
Moroof Akinwande, chairman of the Oyo State Fire Services Agency, confirmed the incident in a statement issued on Wednesday in Ibadan.
Akinwande said the agency received a distress alert through a telephone call from Alhaji Mufutau Badmus, Saki branch chairman of the Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria (IPMAN).
He said firefighters, led by Kolade Taiwo, were immediately deployed to the scene following the call.
“On arrival at the scene, it was discovered that the filling station, a DAF tanker truck loaded with 50,000 litres of petrol, one Bajaj motorcycle and three fuel dispense pumps were already engulfed in the inferno,” he said.
Akinwande said the fire service personnel successfully put out the blaze and stopped it from spreading to nearby properties.
He praised officers of the Ofiki division of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) for providing security support during the operation.
Akinwande urged filling station owners across the state to strictly observe fire safety measures to prevent similar incidents.
