The Federal Government has declared Friday, September 5, 2025, a public holiday to mark the celebration of Eid-ul-Mawlid.

Eid-ul-Mawlid commemorates the birth of the Holy Prophet Muhammad.

The Minister of Interior, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, made the announcement on behalf of the Federal Government in a statement issued on Tuesday by the ministry’s Permanent Secretary, Dr. Magdalene Ajani.

Tunji-Ojo congratulated Muslims in Nigeria and across the world, urging them to reflect on the Prophet’s virtues of peace, love, humility, tolerance, and compassion.

The minister further called on Nigerians of all faiths to “use the occasion to pray for peace, security, and stability in the country, while supporting government’s drive for unity and development.”

“The Minister of Interior wishes Muslims a joyous and peaceful Eid-ul-Mawlid celebration,” the statement added.
