The Päijät-Häme District Court in Finland has handed pro-Biafra agitator Simon Ekpa a six-year prison sentence for terrorism-related offences.

Ekpa was convicted of inciting terrorism and participating in the activities of a terrorist organisation.

According to YLE, a Finnish newspaper, the court stated that Ekpa had used his “significant social media following” to fuel unrest in Nigeria’s south-east between August 2021 and November 2024.

The court further ruled that he was an influential member of a militant separatist group seeking to establish a Biafra nation from Nigeria.

It also noted that Ekpa had supplied weapons, explosives, and ammunition “through his network of contacts in the region, and he was also found to have encouraged his followers on social media platform X to commit crimes in Nigeria.”
