The Abdul Samad Rabiu Africa Initiative (ASR Africa) has successfully concluded the fourth edition of its three-month mentorship program with a closeout ceremony held at Babcock University, Ilishan-Remo, Ogun State.

The program, which focused on female students drawn from diverse academic disciplines, is part of ASR Africa’s commitment to empowering young women in tertiary institutions.

Launched on May 27, 2025, the Babcock mentorship program was a structured engagement aimed at preparing female students—especially those nearing graduation—for life beyond the university. Rooted in Babcock University’s core values of excellence, integrity, and service, the initiative connected students with experienced faculty and professionals, who provided guidance in key areas such as career planning, time management, financial literacy, and more.

Speaking at the closing event, Dr. Ubon Udoh, MD/CEO of ASR Africa, commended the mentees and praised the mentorship program for equipping students to transition into professional life with greater clarity, purpose, and confidence. While presenting awards to the mentees, Dr. Udoh also acknowledged the Babcock University management for integrating the program into its extra-curricular development agenda.

The program featured group discussions and one-on-one mentoring sessions with seasoned professionals across fields such as public policy, media advocacy, entrepreneurship, mental health, and purpose-driven leadership. Throughout the program, participants received practical tools for personal growth and career development, with mentors and mentees reporting inspiring outcomes.

The closeout ceremony was not only a formal conclusion of the program but also a celebration of the mentees’ achievements and the impact made over the three-month period.

Other tertiary institutions that have hosted the ASR Africa mentorship program include the Federal College of Education (Technical), Gusau; Al-Qalam University, Katsina State; and University of Zambia (UNZA), extending the initiative’s reach across the continent.
