The Department of State Services, DSS, on Thursday, has grilled and detained two members of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Hon. Sylvester Ogunkelu (Epe 2) and Hon. Lanre Afinni (Lagos Island 2) in connection with the impeachment of Hon. Mudashiru Obasa as speaker of the assembly.

The two parliamentarians, Ogunkelu and Afinni, were reportedly arrested by the DSS for allegedly storming the Clerk’s office to seize the legislative mace used to remove Obasa.

About 20 lawmakers stormed the DSS office in Shangisha on Thursday, demanding the immediate release of their detained colleagues.

Members of the Assembly had removed Obasa as Speaker on January 13 over allegations of misconduct and financial misappropriations. He was subsequently replaced with the former Deputy Speaker, Mojisola Lasbat Meranda.

Despite his removal, Obasa made a defiant return to Lagos last Saturday, rallying supporters and insisting that he remained the rightful Speaker.

However, the lawmakers had stood firm, declaring his impeachment final.
